Image analysis : theory and practice

Syllabus

This course gives a comprehensive presentation of Mathematical Morphology,
a theory born at Paris School of Mines and used worldwide in image processing.
Its fields of application include bio-medicine, materials science and multimedia.
They provide the practical examples used during the course. Thus, this course is
open to a multidisciplinary public, that may be brought to manipulate images
in different application fields. The practical training on PCs, during the afternoons,
leads to a deep understanding of the presented concepts.

Programme

The course is organized as lectures in the morning and practical exercisesin the afternoon. Filtering and segmentation tools, applied to binary,grayscale or colour images, as well as 2D or 3D images, are presented.Examples provided by the large variety of real world applicationsillustrate the power of the presented tools.

Evaluation means

Solution of case studies, similar to those presented during the course.

Detailed schedule

Five full days in a single week : lectures in the morning and practicaltraining on PCs in the afternoon. Demos and audiovisual presentationscomplete the pedagogical resources.
